Dick Dastardly and his sidekick Muttley have appeared in a number of Hanna-Barbara productions from Wacky Races (1968) to Wake, Rattle and Roll (1991). He is essentially a caricature of the English actor Terry-Thomas, and of Professor Fate, a comic villain played by Jack Lemmon in the film The Great Race.
